If you do decide to go to a free beach then these will be sign posted (Spiaggia Libera), but be aware that these beaches can become over crowded, a little dirty and be vigilant with your belongings. You will find the presence of sunbeds, small bars and places to buy food and drink close by. Busy and private beaches will have life guards patrolling dressed in red and there are signs indicating safe depths of swim areas.
